Personal goals of the BASE participants were assessed by an instrument containing questions concerning 10 important life domains of older adults (Staudinger & Fleeson, 1996). For each of these domains participants were asked to rate on a five-point scale (5 rated as "very much", 1 as "not at all") how much they think of it or take action in it (personal life investment).
At measurement Time 1 there were two further procedures: After rating the ten domains, participants were asked to say which was actually their most important goal. For each domain they were also asked to rate, whether things had changed since former times, i. e., when they were 30-50 years old (goal change).

Literature: Smith & Baltes, 1996, 1999; Staudinger & Fleeson, 1996; Staudinger, Freund, Linden, & Maas, 1996, 1999.

11.

Look back over this list: Which topic occupies you most - which one do you most think or do something about?

Goal change

Have things changed from when you were younger (i. e., between 30-50 years old)?

Do you think or do more about ..., less about it, or has it stayed the same?
